Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax laws related to drilling and mining operations.
- Prepare and file accurate tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and property tax filings.
- Develop tax-efficient strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities and maximize tax benefits.
- Prepare financial statements and tax provisions in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.
- Manage tax audits and inquiries from government authorities, providing documentation and resolving issues as needed.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the company's operations.
- Ensure compliance with transfer pricing rules for transactions between related entities within the company.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks associated with the company's operations.
- Collaborate with senior management and external advisors to develop long-term tax strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Communicate tax-related issues and developments to internal stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and government officials.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax compliance and planning, preferably in the drilling and mining industry.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations, including federal, provincial, and local taxation.
- Experience managing tax audits and inquiries from government authorities, with a track record of successful resolutions.
- Proficiency in financial reporting and tax provision preparation, with a solid understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
