Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of indirect tax returns in compliance with federal, provincial, and territorial regulations.
- Develop strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with tax laws.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations and provide recommendations.
- Identify and mitigate potential tax risks through regular audits and controls.
- Assist with tax audits by providing documentation and support to tax authorities.
- Collaborate with internal departments to align on tax matters and provide training as needed.
- Continuously improve tax processes and systems for efficiency and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of tax filings and correspondence.
- Bachelor's Degree: bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or a related field.
- Experience in Canadian Tax, at least 5+ years of experience in Canadian tax compliance and planning, with a focus on indirect taxes such as GST/HST, PST, and QST.
- CPA, CA (Chartered Accountant) designation preferred.
- Proficiency in Canadian tax laws and regulations, with a strong understanding of indirect tax principles and compliance requirements.
- Experience with tax software and ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.
- Familiarity with tax data analytics tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Qlik.
- Experience with tax audit support and resolution, including liaising with tax authorities and resolving disputes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research complex tax issues and provide recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external auditors.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance in tax reporting and documentation.
